Ketika ia menulis lagu, dia akan merekam, bermain piano dan drum - kemudian, lalu ketika ia bermain itu semua untuk saya, dia akan menyanyikan bagian orkestra atau gitar yang akan ditambahkan kemudian. Shadows dan Synyster Gates mampir ke harddisk (acara radio) di mana mereka menjelaskan rincian tentang Nightmare sebelum rilis,dan album ini akhirnya dirilis di seluruh dunia pada tanggal 27 Juli 2010. Album ini mendapat review positif dari kritikus musik tapi. Disambut baik oleh fans. Nightmare memulai debutnya di nomor satu di Billboard 200 dengan penjualan 163.000 unit di minggu pertama.

Pada tanggal 20 Januari 2011, Avenged Sevenfold mengumumkan melalui Facebook mantan drummer Confide Arin Ilejay akan tur dengan mereka mulai tahun ini dan mendapatkan tempat sebagai drummer permanen

Sekitar Tanggal 12 Mei,Mereka baru merilis video "So Far Away" setelah sudah membuat lagunya.Video "So Far Away" Itupun di gunakan menjadi kenangan mereka terhadap The Rev(Jimmy Sullivian).
Memang patut mereka mengenang The Rev,karena sejak awak A7x di bentuk,The Rev sudah ada di A7x sampai ia Meninggal .
Awal A7x di bentuk pada tahun 1999,hanya ada 4 orang saja yaitu M.Shadow,Zacky V,Matt Wendt,dan The Rev mereka berasal dari SMA yang sama.Dan yang tersisa dari tahun 1999 sampai 2009 adalah M Shadow,Zacky V,Synyster Gates(Pendatang yang datang dari luar),dan The Rev.
Pada tanggal 28 Desember 2009 The Rev meninggal,tepat hari itu adalah 2 hari sebelum Hari Raya Tahun Baru 2010,dan terpaksaThe Rev tidak bisa merayakannya bersama teman-temannya.Bagaimanapun juga,dia adalah Drummer yang bersejarah bagi A7x
